Italy 2026- Siena.

Siena (in the Tuscany region) was very beautiful! After our quick stop in Pisa, we headed to Siena, where we were staying for the wedding. There was a welcome party the night before the wedding, and sadly we only made it to the last quarter of that because the train we were supposed to take was broken and they rerouted us (and many others), so the trains were super full and very slow, but we made it! I'm so glad we could at least make it to some of it, because I was initially worried that we'd miss the whole thing.  So glad we could get there safely after that crazy experience!

The welcome party was in the town square and it was beautiful at night! What a gift to be able to see these amazing places in Italy! So glad the girls could be well loved and cared for at home by Kley's parents too!

Loved spending a week with Kley- what a gift God gave me in him!

Views from our hotel in Siena- amazing!

Another special thing about this part of the trip was that we were able to meet up with my parents! They were in Europe too traveling to several different countries and went to the wedding too! We got to see them Friday night at the welcome party, spend the day with them Saturday before the wedding, and go to the wedding with them too. Other church friends, Dave and Carolyn, were traveling with my parents too and it was fun to see them because I grew up going to church with them!

How incredible are all these views? God's creation is so wonderful!

We explored the city streets before the wedding and loved walking around. We saw the Duomo di Siena (Siena Cathedral). It was constructed in the 13th century and is so ornate. We didn't go inside because the line was long and we didn't have time before the wedding, but even seeing the outside was cool!

While we couldn't get inside the Duomo, we did get to go inside the Santa Maria della Scala (St. Maria of Scala museum) across the street from the Duomo di Siena and that was so interesting! Kley really loved looking around in it! It's hard to see all the details, but the wall painting has a Latin quote from Luke 5 on the top about healing, and the painting has God at the top shining down on Jesus as He is healing people. At the front there was an ark of the covenant with a cross and the communion table had a lamb under it, representing Jesus as the sacrificial lamb. It's also neat that this place used to be a hospital for helping abandoned babies and serving food to the poor, which is a neat tie in to the symbolism of the painting about healing!

Walking the streets of Siena was so fun! Kley was on fire on picking the shops this trip and found many cool places to find something special to bring back to the girls and some Christmas presents for people.

Coca-cola in a glass bottle! And Kley said this was the best pizza he's ever had in his entire life! :)
